Sales Leon Jones, Jr., age 70, of Covington, passed away under hospice care on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. He was a stubborn man who lived his life when and how he wanted, and loved every minute of it. He was fun and fun-loving, always looking to have a good time. Sales enjoyed cookouts with family and friends down on the Hatchie River, drinking and dancing, and working in his garden after he retired in 2016 from Southwest Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation, where he had worked as an electrical engineer for over 45 years. His work friends became like a second family to him. Sales loved Tennessee football, and everything “Rocky Top,” and wanted everyone to know! From his phone ringtone, to the songs he’d play in the car, Tennessee was HIS team. The life of the party, his loss will be felt by many, but his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of his friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Judith “Judy” Shannon Jones, of Covington; three children, Charlie Griffin and Courtney Griffin Newman, both of Covington, and Shannon (Karen) Griffin of Kansas City, Missouri; three siblings, David (Dianne) Jones, of Ripley, Patricia Shelton, of Covington, and Willie Atkins of Douglasville, GA; his grandchildren, Chris Epps of Kansas City, MO, Zeke Epps of Storm Lake, IA, Ethan (Jessica) Newman, of Warner Robbins, GA, Madison (Peyton Stafford) Griffin and Xander (Sarah Lemley) Newman, both of Covington, and Aiden Greenough, of Lawson, MO; one great-grandson, Oliver Newman; one nephew, Sam Shelton, of Covington; two nieces, Angela Shelton Clausen, of Nashville, and Amanda Jones (Brantley) Tillman, of Ripley; one great-nephew, Jaxon Tillman, of Ripley; two great-nieces, Becca Shelton, of Covington, and Harper Tillman, of Ripley; two great-great-nieces, Lenore Cothran and Elise Shelton, both of Covington, and his beloved dog, Bonnie Blue. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Crystal Lynn Jones, his father, Sales Jones, Sr., and his mother, Icye Daniels Jones Travis. Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held at 12pm on Friday, August 4, at Covington Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be held the evening prior, at the funeral home from 5pm until 7pm.
