Jimmy “JJ” Jones, 72, of Covington, passed away on Tuesday, February 7 at his home surrounded by his family. Jimmy was an electrician having worked at West Tennessee Electric prior to going to work for Tipton County Maintenance. He was a member of the Leighs Chapel Holiness Church. Known as Pete to his family, he leaves his wife of 55 years, Deborah “Debbie” Ann Jones; two children, James “Jim” Jones, Jr. and Tammy Lynn (Kevin) Gay; two honorary children, Hank (Janette) Phelps and Teresa Marie (the late Daryl) Quinley; five grandchildren, Blake (Ashley) Smith, Brad (Rachel) Gay, Candace (John Paul) Rose, Jade (Jonathan) Brewer and Demi Campbell; 11 great grandchildren, Ethan Smith, Caleb Smith, Hallie Gay, Lyla Gay, Logan Rose, Bailey Rose, Jones Brewer, Jameson Brewer, Cal Brewer, Milo Campbell and Monroe Campbell; four sisters, Mary Brown, Bonnie Spence, Barbara (the late Bill) Smith and Patsy (Tommy) Black; one step-brother, Daryl “Smooch” (Debbie) Wilson and one sister-in-law, Helen Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Cleveland and Ivy Lorene Wilson Jones; one grandson, Tommy Lee Jones; four sisters, Jean (Georgie) Cranford, Carolyn (Harvey) Tierce, Shirley (Moon) Boston and Janie (Charlie) Jenkins and four brothers, Jewel Wayne “Horace” Jones, Terry (Charlotte) Jones, Joe Jones and Rodney Jones. A memorial visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday February 12 at the Covington Funeral Home.
